Xbox Video Game
Console
Product Description:
Microsoft's
Video Game System delivers games that blur the lines between fantasy
and reality.
Scope of
Design:
- System Architecture
- Mechanical Design
- Electromagnetic Interference
Optimization
- Thermal Performance Design
- Design for Manufacturability
- Cost Reduction
The Challenge:
The product was already well
into high-volume manufacture when Mechanistic became involved. The primary
design goals were cost reduction and manufacturability improvements. It
was necessary to design within existing constraints and implement design
improvements and performance enhancements incrementally.
The Result:
Working under contract to Microsoft
Corporation, interfacing directly with the Mountain View Design Center,
Mechanistic provided general engineering support. By working with the
Pro/ENGINEER production database, Mechanistic created multiple parallel
databases, each exploring different redesign and optimization scenarios.
After careful review, a number of high-value design fixes were chosen
and implemented in production.
