Scope of Design:

The Challenge:

This project was on a very aggressive timeline. The concept was to incorporate as many existing production components as possible into a much smaller enclosure. The enclosure was to look as though it had been machined from aluminum. The bezel was to be flat, made of metal and designed in such a way as to be suitable for high-volume manufacture and modular with other products within the line.

The Result:

Mechanistic had worked extensively on the previous generation design, so we were able to save time by modifying existing layouts. The power supply was externalized into a brick-type housing, allowing the unit to shrink considerably. The "billet aluminum" look was achieved by developing panels that fit together with hiden flush fasteners, a removable I/O panel was designed to accomodate different PCB configurations. Button actuators and LED lightpipes for the existing User Interface PCBA were designed. The entire project from concept to functional prototype was completed in two weeks.
