Scope of Design:

The Challenge:
To develop the mechanical layout from rough sketches and line art in a very short time period. Many of the internal components were not specified yet, so the Pro/ENGINEER model had to be flexible enough to accomodate design changes while still maintaining the original design intent.
The Result:
A mechanical layout was developed based on the known components and best guesses of those yet to be specified. Mechanistic developed a highly robust and modifiable set of master surfaces in Pro/ENGINEER. The master model surfaces were then detailed out into individual parts: top housing, bottom housing, elastomeric keypad membrane, etc. Even with several design reviews and multiple changes, the files were released to prototype in less than two weeks.
