The Challenge:

To create an enclosure that incorporated high-design visual aethetics in a 2U, 19-inch rack mountable chassis. The mechanical components and performance requirements for this product mandated a very densely packed layout. Both the power supplies and the fan module had to be hot-swappable.

The Result:

Working closely with the industrial designer, mechanistic developed surfaces for the bezel of this product from rough sketches and one-on-one design reviews on the fly in Pro/ENGINEER. One of the most unique parts of this design are the highly sculpted handles, imparting a highly refined, almost sensuous feel to the product. In parallel, the mechanical components were modeled and the designs for the sheetmetal enclosure, power supply and fan trays were finalized.
