The Challenge:

Wishing to maintain its leadership position in the Latin American market, particularly Brazil, KaVo wished to introduce a new dental chair. This dental chair had to have hydraulic capabilities to meet Brazilian demand, and also be consistent with the current KaVo brand. Further, the KaVo chair would need to complement cultural standards, upholstery configurations, all in an ultra-low cost platform.

The Result:

Working closely with KaVo and Industrial Designers, Mechanistic conducted extensive research of existing KaVo products. Careful attention was paid to areas where we could leveraeg existing economies of scale and further reduce product cost. From these studies, existing components were identified and incorporated into preliminary concepts and sketches. These sketches were then used to build the entire system in Pro/ENGINEER. Prototypes and discrete functional models were made and tested. final design met all the functional requirements, and significantly reduced production cost as well.
